Comparisons

Adjectives are description words like nice, pretty, horrible and silly.
Comparative adjectives compare two things.
Superlative adjectives compare three or more things.
The rules are very similar, so many teachers teach them together.
We only practiced comparative adjectives tonight.

Recipes

Do you have any easy recipes you can share with us?

Do you ever relax?  How do you like to relax?  This guy just wants to cuddle and imagine chasing cars in his head....

Polite Requests

NOTE:  When you plan to agree or do what's asked with a "Would you mind ____ing" request, you say "NO."  In this case, "mind" is used like "hate."  Say "no" if you're ok with the request.  It's rare to say "yes."

Video -- NeoEnglish Making Polite Requests  (Shown last night)

What polite requests do you have to make at work?  Do people ever make really strange polite requests?

Happy President's Day!

These videos are for people who like history.  They are difficult for Low Intermediate ESOL.  When I was a child, we didn't have President's Day.  We celebrated both George Washington's birthday and Abraham Lincoln's birthday.  President's Day is now between those birthdays.

All the presidents--

 Biography of George Washington--

Biography of Abraham Lincoln--

Use PAST TENSE to talk about history.  Practice Past Tense Grammar

No School Today--Feb. 14, 2014 --Happy Valentine's day!

Happy Valentines Day!

I don't mind = It's OK with me.  When someone asks you, "Do you mind if I __________? (smoke, stand here, get past you...)  "No" means it's no problem.  I often reply, "No, go ahead."

Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate and show romantic love.  Do you celebrate Valentine's Day?

Write about a time you enjoyed with someone you love.

Practice Past Tense

How do you let your sweetheart know you love him or her?  Do you say, "I love you?"  Do you do things for your sweetie?  Do you spend lots of time together?  Do you hug and hold hands?  Do you give gifts?

Feb. 10 Evening Class

Is it easy or difficult to maintain things at your home?  Can you tell me a story about a time you fixed something or needed to get someone to fix it?

Traveling around the world

Today we talked about trips.  I loved hearing about your trips to so many amazing places.
We practiced writing letters.  We talked about prepositions.

Traditional thanksgiving song with some prepositions.  "Dapple Gray" is a gray-and-white spotted horse.
Trot means run slowly.  Horses trot.  People jog.

The next video isn't for everyone.  It's got some rap and a few bad words -- don't play it in front of kids.  The English is clear and fast, though, and the theme goes with today.

How do you like to travel?  Is it better to drive, take a bus, take a train or fly?  Can you tell me a story about traveling?  Where are you going to go next?

Wednesday, Feb. 5 -- Morning Class Starts on Time!

The children start two hours late today, but we start on time.  If you need to stay with your child, please come late.  Better late than never!

Superbowl Sunday

What a terrible Superbowl.  It was a slaughter, not a contest.

For many people, the best part of the superbowl is the party!  Friends and neighbors gather to eat and watch the game.

In this next video "Big Daddy" shows how to make spicy chicken wings on the Queen Latifah show.
(Warning:  fast talk.  No subtitles)

What do you cook when you have a party?  Do you ever get together with other people to watch TV?  Do you watch sports on TV?
